Okay, even though I am still quite a ways away from starting this project officially, I thought I'd provide some details about what will be my first attempt at starting a gaming project.
The first thing is that I need an overall concept - this won't be anything ground-breaking but should be something compelling that will make for an interesting game. Storylines are big with me so I'll be sure to come up with something good...I hope. The next thing will be content - and by that I mean music, sound, and art. I'm not exactly sure whether or not this will involve 3D modeling, but it more than likely will. This will make things difficult as I know I'll need something other than just rectangles to make this game...which means once I get started I might be looking for at least an artist or two.
Time - as of right now there is no timeline. That's right, I'm going the way of Blizzard in saying, "It will be done when it's done". Besides, I already have a regular full-time gig - I'm not trying to have two...that would just completely destroy what is left of my sanity.
The game itself - what type of game will it be? Well, that depends on a variety of factors, but I've already got a few ideas in my head:
- Top-down Adventure/RPG hybrid: This would be something along the lines of Soul Blazer - not so much in the whole 'freeing towns' thing, but taking from the game play elements to include Experience and Equipment in an adventure-style game
- Simulation: This idea came from my days of playing Final Fantasy: My Life as a King. This would be something that, to my knowledge, no one has thought of yet...which is why I'm keeping this one a secret.
- Plat Former: Basically a watered-down version of the Adventure/RPG hybrid above...of course the storyline would be less complex.
